Over 80% of Americans have at least one negative or erroneous entry on their credit report(s). For most this goes unnoticed until they apply for some form of credit. Then BAM! Sorry we're unable to extend you credit at this time... Your SCREWED!
Unfortunately this happens daily to thousands of unsuspecting American consumers and it's only going to get worse as banks, credit care issuers and other lending institutions tighten their credit policies.
How does this happen? Quite frankly, the position taken by the FTC and the Credit Bureaus (Experian, Trans Union and Equifax) is that it's not their fault or their responsibility to verify the reporting of credit by creditors. If there is an error, the onus is on YOU to fix it.
A survey conducted last year by GfK Roper Public Affairs & Media revealed that basically Americans are either lazy about their finances or they just don't care. Here are the results of the survey:
• Six in ten (63 %) do not know their credit score.
• 65% percent say they have never checked their credit reports for free.
• 47% never check their credit reports, and 16% check their credit reports less often than once a year.
Look... a simple reporting error such as an incorrect address, a wrong account number, an account comingled with your Dad's account (hopefully Dad has better credit than you) can cost you not only the opportunity to get or increase credit, but thousands of dollars in higher interest payments.
Before you do anything else, I suggest you check your credit report for FREE! Yes, there is a FREE service without any gimmicks or promises and no you won't need your credit card...unless you're ordering a Pizza or something.
Here the link: AnnualCreditReport.com. What you will need to do is remember any accounts you've opened in the past couple of years as the service will verify your identity through a series of questions about your past credit accounts. For example, you'll be presented with a multiple choice verification questions about you car loan. Three of the answers will be wrong, one will be your account or perhaps none of them are your account.
Believe me, it's really simple and worthwhile. You can pull all three of your credit reports, view and print them while online. You get one FREE REPORT annually.
Once you get your report, follow the instructions as to how to read it. If you have problems visit our website:
Crytal Clear Credit and request a Free Credit Report Analysis. For your trouble we'll include a complimentary report: Understanding Your FICO Score.
